Accountability starts with the byline
A byline tells readers who is responsible for an article. Where author profiles are available, they help explain a contributor's background and relevant experience. Technical reviews and outside contributions should be credited when applicable.
Author profiles accompany published work. We do not create profiles for people who have not contributed.
Editorial responsibilities
Editors and contributors work on choosing useful topics, checking important sources, explaining technical details, and correcting mistakes. We aim to assign coverage to people whose experience fits the subject, whether that is WordPress, software, development, AI, or another area. Read our Editorial Policy for the standards behind those decisions.
Share your experience
If you have a strong idea and practical experience, see Pitch an article for our submission guidelines. Your pitch should tell us what readers will learn and what evidence supports your approach.
How we assign technical coverage
Different stories need different skills. A tutorial may need someone who can work through a process, while a software comparison needs someone who understands the features, prices, and trade-offs. Our specialists focus on topics that match their experience.
Freelance contributors may also take part in research, testing, or writing. Their involvement does not remove the need for careful sourcing and editorial review. Our How we test page explains the distinction between hands-on testing and research-based coverage.
Corrections and accountability
Readers should be able to question a claim or flag a problem, regardless of who wrote the article. Editors review reported errors and may consult the original writer or request a larger rewrite when necessary. See the Corrections policy or reach us through Contact.
